We are committed to working alongside the business community, stakeholders, elected officials, and community members to identify and accelerate solutions to take on the Dual Challenge of meeting the world’s increasing energy needs while simultaneously reducing emissions. No other city in the world is better positioned or equipped to lead this challenge.
HETI has established strategic priorities to advance efforts within several sectors where Houston has a strategic advantage. These active sector-specific priorities are:
With its leading chemical and advanced materials expertise, large-scale manufacturing capabilities, and industrial port, Houston possesses the required talent and infrastructure to be the global leader in carbon management. HETI advocates for sound policies and supports infrastructure investment and market signals for Houston to lead in carbon capture, utilization and storage (CCUS), direct air capture (DAC), low carbon hydrogen and other carbon management pathways.
The energy transition requires new thinking about electricity production, transmission and distribution as well as demand response, energy storage and efficiency measures that support resiliency.HETI provides opportunities for members and stakeholders to engage on and solve our most pressing power resiliency issues through the development of workshops, reports and key convenings.
Not all of the technologies needed for a low-carbon future have been invented and many promising solutions need to be scaled and de-risked. HETI connects its members and stakeholders to identify and remove barriers to commercial scale low carbon technology deployment.
Meeting the Dual Challenge for more energy with less emissions requires an incredible activation of talent. HETI supports the ongoing process of attracting, retaining and upskilling the region’s workforce as the energy landscape evolves. HETI connects employers, higher education institutions and training providers to deliver the talent that the region needs.
