Sophia Cunningham is Vice President of the Houston Energy Transition Initiative (HETI) at the Greater Houston Partnership—the region’s largest Chamber of Commerce. She leads HETI’s efforts related to carbon capture, use, and storage (CCUS), manages the Initiative’s Community Advisory Board, and oversees climate equity initiatives to strengthen relationships between corporate climate action and the Greater Houston community.
Sophia previously served as the Director of Public Policy at the Partnership. She led the Public Policy team in developing policies that promoted economic growth and opportunity in Houston, and in positioning the city as an influential global leader. Sophia also supervised the Partnership’s Policy Advisory Committees on energy, sustainability, transportation, and infrastructure, wherein business community members and policy leaders meet and initiate the Partnership’s impact work.
Prior to joining the Public Policy team, Sophia worked for the Partnership’s Regional Workforce Development Initiative, UpSkill Houston. During her tenure, Sophia advanced employer-led programs that cultivated quality talent in industries that drive Houston’s regional economy.
Sophia graduated from Davidson College with a Bachelor of Arts in English. She is an alum of the Center for Houston’s Future Leadership Forum.
